Jimei is located on mainland in the northeast of Xiamen and is connected to Xiamen Island by an oversea bridge and a causeway. The school village was set up by Tan Kahkee, a native of the area who migrated to Singapore and became a wealthy industrialist. He spent his huge fortune on education in his native Jimei as well as in Singapore. In 1921, he also set up the famous Xiamen University. The main attraction in Jimei is Turtle Garden, which has a rich of display of sculptures and stone carvings. The garden includes a 50-metre-long corridor, a monument and the Mausoleum of Tan Kah Kee.
