Chuxi Tulou Cluster | A 600-Year Architectural Legend

Chuxi Tulou Cluster

“The Valley of Celebration” — A UNESCO World Heritage Site

Perched approximately 15 km from Xiayang Town, the Chuxi Tulou Cluster is one of the most secluded and authentic earthen building groups in Yongding. This cluster is famous for the word “Qing” (Celebration) in every building’s name, as seen in landmarks like the Chuxi Yuqinglou Inn.

Jiqinglou: The Masterpiece

Built in 1419 during the Ming Dynasty, Jiqinglou is a highlight of any Fujian Tulou highlights tour. This 600-year-old marvel is a testament to ancient engineering:

Unlike modern round buildings with shared stairs, Jiqinglou features 72 private staircases. The entire interior is constructed using rabbet and mortise (tenon) structures, remaining perfectly intact for six centuries.

Today, Jiqinglou serves as a living museum, often featured in our Fujian In Depth Tours. It houses over 10,000 exhibits, from ancient farming tools to traditional wedding costumes.
