Located in Pushan Village, Meilin Town, Heguilou is a record-breaking structure. Standing at 21.5 meters, it is the tallest square Tulou in existence. However, its most astonishing feat isn’t its height, but its location—it was built entirely on unstable swampland.
To prevent the building from sinking, Hakka ancestors used a massive network of over 3,000 pine logs as a raft-like foundation. If you jump in the center of the courtyard, you can actually feel the ground vibrate slightly, earning it the nickname “the dancing building.”
