The Unbeatable Fortress

In 1934, Eryilou survived a brutal three-month military siege. Despite being bombarded, the massive earthen walls remained intact. It stands today as a 268-year-old testament to the defense engineering highlighted in our Fujian Tulou highlights.

Vast Living Space

Spanning four floors and divided into 12 independent units, the building centers around a magnificent 600-square-meter inner courtyard. This design fostered a unique community where over 500 residents could live in a self-sustained environment.

Cultural Gallery

Eryilou is famous for its “Tulou Murals.” The interior walls are adorned with 593 square meters of paintings and calligraphy. Uniquely, some units even preserve 1930s foreign newspapers, reflecting the global vision of the Hakka people.
