Fujian Tulou 2-Day Heritage Tour

Private Tour from Xiamen | In-depth Culture & Traditional Villages

DAY 1: XIAMEN – YONGDING – TAXIA VILLAGE
Xiamen – 2.5H Drive – Yongding – 1H Drive – Taxia
Chuxi Tulou Cluster

Chuxi Tulou Cluster (Jiqinglou)

Includes five large circular buildings and ten rectangular buildings. Jiqinglou is the oldest and most special round earth building in this area. It is almost 600 years old and covers a total area of 2,826 m² with 206 rooms. Unlike normal round earth buildings that usually have only four public stairways, Jiqinglou is equipped with 72 stairways, which divide the whole building into 72 independent units. All rooms, stairways, and interior walls are constructed with wood and rabbet structure. Not even a single nail is used for the construction and the earth building remains intact after 600 years. This site is a cornerstone of Fujian Tulou highlights.

Shiqiao Village

Shiqiao Village

An authentic mountain village with very few tourists. One of the highlights is the 4-story Shunyulou (built in 1945), which has the longest outer diameter (74.1m) among single donut-type Tulou houses. Another is Changyuanlou (built in 1723), rectangular and built on a linear site with a steep slope facing a stream, showing dramatic harmony with nature.

Taxia Village

This exquisite Hakka village is located in a valley. More than 20 earthen buildings of different shapes are built along the bank of a clear brook. A major attraction is the Zhang’s Clan Ancestral Hall. In front of it, 20 stone flagpoles rise like a stone forest from the pond side. It is one of the most well-reserved ancient clan houses in China and a must-see for Fujian in-depth tours.

DAY 2: TAXIA VILLAGE – ZHANGZHOU – XIAMEN
Morning Trek & Heritage Visit
Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster

Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster

Located in Shangban Village, this cluster is composed of four round and one rectangular earthen house. It is one of the most magnificent and well-preserved Hakka castles in the area, often referred to as “Four Dishes and One Soup.” The village is listed as a Famous Historic Cultural Village in China for its unique regional system.

Yuchanglou

Yuchanglou (The Leaning Building)

Built in 1308, it is one of the oldest existing Tulous. This five-story building is most famous for its tilted pillars, with the most extreme slanted at a 15-degree angle. Remarkably, Yuchanglou has remained intact for over 600 years despite this structural curiosity. It’s often paired with our Xiamen highlights for a perfect weekend getaway.

Daimei Traditional Village

Surrounded by water on four sides, this is the biggest ancient residential dwelling group in Fujian with over 200 traditional folk houses from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. These typical Minnan-style houses feature red tile leaning roofs, wooden windows, and doors, creating a breathtaking “water village” scene.
