Xiamen Huihe Stone Cultural Garden
Xiamen Huihe Stone Cultural Garden is located in the northeastern part of Xiamen Zhonglun Park on Lvling Road, covering an area of about 12,000 square meters. It is a thematic garden of stone culture proud of traditional Chinese Garden’s landscape scenes blending well with modern Japanese Garden’s layout elements. At Huihe Stone Cultural Garden, zigzag corridor,skillful stone structures and exquisite stone sculptures blend perfectly into the elegant landscape. The Garden is a showcase of the enduring history of Southern Fujian’s stone culture and a testament to the co-development of stone culture and human civilization as well. The Treasure Collection Gallery represents “intangible assets” of Huihe Cultural Garden. It contains a corridor of stone sculptures by leading artists and a large collection of highly prized Buddhist artifacts dating back to the Han, Northern Wei, Northern Qi, Tang, Yuan and Qing Dynasties. There is also an exhibition of human sexual stone carving art. The elegant and wonder stone galleries display various series of exhibitions, including human figure series, animal series, landscape series, and literary series. The Collection Gallery is truly a treasure house for history, knowledge, art, aesthetics and amusement. Brief Introduction of Shadow Carving
As the name implies, shadow carving is dotted on black stones, which makes stonework vivid and living like taking pictures. There is a saying about shadow carving. “People produce embroidery on silk goods in Suzhou while embroider on stones in South Fujian province.” Shadow carving is hailed a miracle among Hui’an stone carvings as well as in China.
Shadow carving can not only bear resemblance to the original but feature birds and animal, flowers and fruits, people and scene, and even mountain and river in a small black stone. Thus, the stone artwork looks fine and refine by its unique skill and particular style.
The creation of shadow carving overcomes shortcomings of pictures’ yellowing and fading. Shadow carving stonework can be well preserved and stored forever because it keeps shape no worry about wind and rain. It is widely used in murals, steles and ornaments. Meanwhile, it is regarded as ideal gifts for its local characteristic and high value of art and appreciation.
